EC RABe – gray mouse in the cheese country. After the TEE traffic was discontinued and the Euro-City connections began in 1987, the 5 RAe series railcars, which now operated in 6 parts, were converted. 2nd class seats were installed, the series designation was therefore changed to RABe and the railcars were given an EC-compliant, but in relation to the elegant TEE paint, monotonous paint in light gray / dark gray. The trains running on the connections Zurich – Milan and Zurich – Stuttgart were soon referred to as “gray mice”. The age of the trains became more and more noticeable, however, and when transformer damage and axle breakages increased, they were demoted to the TGV feeder train between Bern and Frasne and retired until 1999.
